ON S'Engage en Développement Durable (OSEDD)

The On s'engage en développement durable (OSEDD) certification , piloted by ADDERE Service-conseil, recognizes organizations located in Quebec that are seriously and proactively committed to integrating sustainable development into their business practices. It is a useful tool to help organizations structure their approach to sustainable development and make their achievements and commitments known to the public.

"On s'engage en développement durable" (OSEDD) is a certification offered and managed entirely by ADDERE Service-conseil and recognized at the regional level. OSEDD is accessible, affordable and the attestation process is adapted to all types of Quebec organizations.

OSEDD offers three levels with specific requirements that allow the applicant organization to progress gradually in its approach to sustainability. In order to move to a higher level, the organization must demonstrate that it meets all the requirements of the lower levels, in addition to those of the level in question. In order to ensure impartiality and equity in the evaluation process, ADDERE Service-conseil mandates an external and independent auditor to evaluate the applications received.

OSEDD can also serve as a stepping stone for organizations that may wish to pursue internationally recognized certifications, which are third-party verified and more complex to obtain.

This level is intended for organizations that are beginning their development process and wish to formalize their commitments. It allows them to plan and structure their approach, and then to establish the foundations that will allow them to progress to the higher levels. These foundations include, among other things, an action plan and a sustainable development policy, as well as a strategy for raising awareness and mobilizing employees.

This level is intended for organizations that already have the basic foundation and structures in place to integrate sustainability into their business practices. To achieve this level, organizations must demonstrate that they have already implemented a number of sustainability actions, in addition to having made efforts to raise employee awareness. This level also includes new requirements that will allow organizations to make further progress, including the completion of a greenhouse gas inventory and the tracking of environmental, economic and/or social performance indicators.

This level is intended for organizations that have a structured, active and maintained sustainability strategy, and that have integrated sustainability into their core mission. In addition to having implemented the actions necessary to obtain the lower levels, organizations wishing to obtain this level must have already completed a greenhouse gas inventory, developed a monitoring system for at least three environmental, economic and/or social performance indicators, implemented measures to improve working conditions and employee satisfaction, and continued efforts to mobilize and raise employee awareness.

Ms. Nathalie Lemay holds a master's degree in environment from the University of Sherbrooke. She has contributed her expertise in sustainable development to various organizations, including NPOs, municipalities, educational institutions and small businesses. She has a good knowledge of the certification process as she has helped several organizations to become certified, particularly in the event industry. Her experience led her to act as a jury member for the VIVATS, a Quebec competition that honours event organizers with responsible practices.
